Obituary of Albert J. Welch

Albert J. Al Papa Welch Pops Welch, age 88, of Framingham for over 60 years, died, Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Marlborough Hills Nursing Home in Marlborough. He was the husband of 56 years to the late Marguerite M. Margo (Winn) Welch who died in 2005. Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late Dr. Francis and Antoinette (Forte) Welch. Mr. Welch is a graduate of Somerville High School & Tufts University. During WWII he served in the US Army 335th Infantry Railsplitters Regiment as a Sergeant and was awarded the Purple Heart. An avid fisherman and tennis player, Mr. Welch was also active in community affairs as a member of Framingham Town Meeting, the Republican Club and the Doorfield Assoc. He also was a Framingham Youth Hockey Pee Wee coach and referee as well as a Framingham Little League Baseball Coach. He was also a longtime parishioner of St. Bridgets Church. Mr. Welch is survived by his children, Christopher C. Welch of Framingham, Cheryl A. Ferrer and her husband Gabriel of Miami, FL and Cynthia L. Conroy and her husband Michael of Plantation, FL. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jonathan and Jennifer Ferrer and Christine and Michael Conroy; a sister, Frances Laughlin of Oregon; a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen OHara and her husband Richard S. and many nieces and nephews. Relatives & friends are invited to attend his funeral on Saturday, July 30, at 9 AM from the Norton Funeral Home, www.nortonfuneralhome.com 53 Beech Street (corner of Union Ave), Framingham, followed by his funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Bridgets Church, Route 9, near Framingham Center. Burial will take place in Edgell Grove Cemetery, 53 Grove St. Framingham Center. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 5 - 8 PM.
