ASHE, Wm. David - Passed away peacefully in his 77th year on February 11, 2010 at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Beloved husband of Doris (Koenen) Ashe for 40 years. Dear step-father of Peter and Kathy Johne and their three children Andrew, Derek and Michelle. David was born in Ottery St. Mary, Devonshire and came to Canada in 1954. In his early days in Oakville, he was active in the YMCA, assisting in youth and sports programs. He was an ardent Numismatist, President of the Oakville Coin Club, Editor of the Canadian Numismatic Journal and for many years Researcher for the Chedoke Numismatic Research Society. He leaves behind a book entitled 'Oakville Street Names and Landmarks', co-authored with Joyce Burnell in 1997, which includes a good selection of his extensive research of Oakville history, coinciding with his 25 years of employment at the town of Oakville. David will be greatly missed. A memorial service to be held at the Glen Oaks Memorial Chapel & Reception Centre, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville, 905-257-8822, on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 7 p.m. A reception to follow. He will be interred at a later date in Ottery St. Mary. In memory of David, donations to the Oakville Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
