Avis de décès de William-Richbourg Dunlap


TUSCALOOSA Dr. William Richbourg Dunlap of Tuscaloosa, age 77, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at DCH Regional Medical Center. He was a long time member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Services will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Friday, March 15, 2007. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. and services will begin at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Johna Belle Dunlap; brother, Dr. Tom Dunlap (Bebe) of Jesup, Ga.; three children, Dr. John Dunlap of Knoxville, Tenn., Dr. David Dunlap (Beth) of Huntsville, Ala., and Laura Ballard (Richard) of Fosters, Ala.; seven grandchildren, Will and Clay Dunlap, Daniel and Lee Dunlap, Jessica Ballard, Laura Kaitlyn and Crawford Dunlap; and one great-grandchild, Austin Dunlap.He was preceded in death by his son, William T. Dunlap, of Huntsville, Ala.He attended college at Auburn University where he received his Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering in 1951. He worked as an engineer for Thiokol Chemical Corporation in the Space Program from 1951 until 1958. He next entered private business in Huntsville, Ala., as co-owner and CEO of Ray Lumber Company from 1959 to 1968. In 1968 he moved to Tuscaloosa with his family to attend the University of Alabama where he earned a Masters Degree in Social Work in 1970 and his Doctorate in Education in 1972. In 1978 he earned his Masters Degree in Statistics from Southern Mississippi. He taught Special Education at the University of Alabama from 1973 until his retirement in 1996. He maintained his connection with the University as Professor Emeritus in Education. He had a long and distinguished career at the University and was praised by his peers for his "commitment to improving services for special needs individuals and his dedication to strengthening the preparation of Special Education Teachers".Pallbearers will be Dr. Tom Dunlap, Dr. John Dunlap, Dr. David Dunlap, Joe Wilmer, Jim Wilmer, Richard Ballard, Dr. Jerry Eure and Dr. Oliver Clark. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Covenant Presbyterian Church and Mrs. Jane Eure.The family extends special thanks to Drs. McCormack, Lopez, Azom, Dubay and Hitt, the nurses of ACCU, MICU at DCH and his caregivers, Kathy Cook and Caroline Robertson.In lieu of flowers, please make all donations to Covenant Presbyterian Church in memory of Bill Dunlap.
