Mr. William Evie Whitaker, 66, of Lancaster, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014, at his home. He was born May 25, 1948, in Lancaster, a son of the late Evie B. Whitaker and Edna McManus Whitaker. Mr. Whitaker was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was a former member of Wannamaker Lodge No. 329 AFM and L and L Hunting Club. Mr. Whitaker loved spending time with his grandkids and family. He loved football, car racing, woodworking and loved building birdhouses and giving them to family and friends. Alaska was his favorite place he visited.A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Whitaker is 5 p.m. today, July 27, at Lancaster Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Wayne Dickson and Bill Sumner officiating. Burial will be private.Mr. Whitaker is survived by his wife, Martha L. Whitaker of Lancaster; three sons, Michael "Pete" Ghent and David Ray Ghent, both of Lancaster, and Christopher L. "Chris" Whitaker of Concord, N.C.; three daughters, Kellie Jo Mosley and her husband, Scott, of Waxhaw; Sheila Whitaker and her fiancé, Artie, of Lancaster and Charity Whitaker of Rock Hill; a sister, Sandra Bailey and her husband, Ronald "Bud," of Lancaster; a sister-in-law, Judy Whitaker of Lancaster; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson.The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. today, July 27, at Lancaster Funeral Home and other times at the home, 5435 Pageland Highway.Memorial contributions may be made to Agape Hospice of Lancaster, 404 W.
