Avis de décès de Thomas Waters


Thomas Landon Waters, 98, died Monday, May 28, 2007. Born September 17, 1908, in Cross Anchor, he was the only son of Mamie Stone Waters and Jesse Coleman Waters.Mr. Waters grew up in Laurens. After graduating from Laurens High School, he attended North Georgia College, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Upon graduation in 1932, he was commissioned in the United States Army. He later attended the Rutgers University School of Business graduate program for executives.In 1937, he married Dorothy Lee Allen of Hapeville, Ga., whom he had met while a student at North Georgia. In the 1930s, he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps and its successor organization the Soil Conservation Service. At the outbreak of World War II, he was called to active duty and spent the duration of the war teaching in the Officer's Candidate School at Fort Benning, Ga.After the war, he went to work in Atlanta for the newly organized Texize Chemicals Company as its first salesman outside of South Carolina. In 1955, he moved to Greenville as the assistant sales manager of Texize. He was later sales manager, and at the time of his retirement in 1973 was serving as vice president for customer relations.Mr. Waters was a member and president of the Greenville Sales Executive Club. He was also a member of Green Valley Country Club and of the South Carolina Senior Golfers' Association. He was a member of Earle Street Baptist Church for many years. Later, for over 20 years, he was a member of First Baptist Church, where he enjoyed being a part of the Fellowship Class.He is survived by Dorothy Allen Waters, his wife of 69 years; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Dottie and Charlie Bryan of Greenville and Anne Westbrook and Peggy and Howard Rowland, all of Hendersonville, N.C.; six grandchildren, Dorothy Bryan Wattleworth (Andy) of Winston-Salem, N.C., Laura Bryan Carroll (Steve) of Mount Pleasant, Landon Westbrook (Anand Gan) of New York City, Anne Allen Westbrook of Savannah, Ga., Clay Rowland of James Island, and Margaret Anne Rowland Johnson (Adam) of James Island; and four great-grandchildren, Benjamin Thomas, Charles Andrew and Katherine Bryan (Kate) Wattleworth of Winston-Salem and Lillian Waters (Lila) Carroll of Mount Pleasant.The family will receive friends Thursday at 1 p.m. in the narthex of First Baptist Church, with a memorial service following in the church at 2 p.m. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Barfield, Ralph Bell, Ed Chrismon, Jack Mayer, Earl Miles and his Texize friends and colleagues.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that friends may make donations to the First Baptist Church Music Ministry, 847 Cleveland St., Greenville, SC 29601, or to the charity of one's choice.The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive
