Thomas Hammond was born Dec. 20, 1953, to Artie Hammond and the late Tom Hammond of Cumming. The Hammond family has had stores at Hammonds Crossing since 1898. In 1986 Thomas and his wife Candy opened Hammonds store at Hammonds Crossing, which was an Amoco gas station with bait and tackle. In 1998 they built their second store at Jot Em Down. After selling both stores Thomas built his dream bait and tackle store in January of 2010 at Hammond's Crossing. Thomas and Candy, along with their children Jason, Kelli and their spouses, have run this business for several years.Thomas passed away Aug. 26, 2013, after losing his courageous battle with cancer. He passed away with his family and his dog Minnie at his side.He is survived by his mother, Artie Hammond of Cumming; his wife of 34 years, Candy Hammond; their son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Samantha Hammond of Cumming; daughter and son-in-law, Kelli and Tim Hawkins of Cumming; grandchildren, Ava and Asher Hammond and Madison Hawkins; his son, Jeffery Hammond (Michelle); grandchildren, Matthew and Jessie; sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Bobby Shadburn; sister and brother-in-law, Dianne and Charles Cantrell; sister, June Hammond, all of Cumming; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Cyndi and Rick Durham of Dahlonega; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Russ and Betty Nichols of Dahlonega; several nieces and nephews also survive.In lieu of flowers, (per Thomas's request), please make donations to the Thomas Hammond High School Fishing club fund at Hammond's Fishing Center, 4235 Browns Bridge Road, Cumming, GA 30041 or to Citizens Bank of Forsyth County, 4255 GA Hwy 400, Cumming, GA 30040A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m. at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Danny Bennett and the Rev. Larry Patton officiating.
