Thomas Francis Noonan, 88SCARBOROUGH - Thomas Francis Noonan, 88, formerly of Ocean View Harbor, Scarborough, died at a nursing home on Monday, Sept. 26, 2005 after a long illness.Tom, or "Tee" as his family called him, was born in Lynn, Mass., on Feb. 23, 1917 to Catherine Sullivan Noonan and Thomas Anthony Noonan.The family relocated to Portland, Maine where Tee graduated from Portland High School, and Portland Junior College.During World War II, he was a Captain in the Army and served in the Philippines and the Aleutian Islands under General MacArthur. A war hero wounded in action, he received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.He married his wartime bride Catherine Zukunft in Portland in May of 1945.He worked for many years as Vice President of Holmes Stickney Shoe Company of Portland. When Holmes Stickney closed, he worked for Knapp Shoe in Portland and out of Brockton, Mass., until his retirement.Tom loved cooking, playing golf, fishing, boating, watching horse and greyhound racing, walking the local beaches, watching the Portland harbor at Bug Light Park, and enjoyed well-turned words and phrases. He was a tremendous family man, delighting in gathering and feeding his family and extended family whether it be a simple cookout, a lobster bake at Pine Point, or large family reunions. He was a devoted husband caring for his wife Kay through her many years of illnesses. He was a great provider, concerned father, and a dedicated, hard worker, and a true gentleman. He will be remembered for his deep love of family, his Faith, his great sense of humor, and especially his wonderful laugh and smile.Tom is survived by his children, Thomas Noonan Jr. of Raymond, Patricia Noonan Peterson of Hattiesburg, Miss., Margaret Noonan Foutch of Champaign, Ill., and John Noonan of Tesuque, N.M. Other survivors include six grandchildren, Alicia Marie Peterson Clark of Alexandria, Va., Kristina Elizabeth Peterson of San Diego, Calif., and Chicago, Ill., Laura Beth Foutch and Daniel Foutch of Champaign, Ill., Georgia Kay Noonan and Mary Beth Noonan of Raymond.Visiting hours will be Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Conroy- Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Rd., Scarborough.
