MARKS, SAMUEL LEE, 85, of Louisville, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2011 at Northfield Centre for Health and Rehabilitation. He was a World War II Navy veteran and the founder of Allied Sporting Goods. He was member of The Temple, Jewish Community Center, St. George Lodge 239 F&AM and The Odom Club. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Marks; and mother, Esther Goldstein Marks; sisters, Tobie Weinberg, Jean Gardner and Ruth Finkle. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Judith Greenfield Marks; and sons, Michael (Joanne), Gregory (Lorna) and Harry (Carol); grandchildren, Lauren, Pretoria, South Africa, Caryn, Washington D.C., Abigail, Michelle, Nicole and Justen Marks; great-grandson, Jayden; sister-in-law, Carol Behr; nephew, Larry Weinberg; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Sam will always be remembered for his love of life, family and friends. His funeral will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday at Herman Meyer & Son, 1338 Ellison Ave., with burial in The Temple Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish Community Center of Louisville, 3630 Dutchmans Lane.
