->Robert (Bob) Walter ConnollyRHINEBECK - Robert (Bob) Walter Connolly passed away peacefully in Rhinebeck, New York on January 19, 2011. Bob was 81 years of age. Bob was born on August 18, 1929 in the Bronx, New York, the son of the late Mira Luddington and Roger Connolly. He graduated from The Drake High School, New York NY in 1947. On January 2, 1955 at The Bedford Park Presbyterian Church he married the late Isabella Reid Maven and they began their family. Bob is the father of six surviving children and was known as grandpa to twenty grandchildren. He was employed by Standard Oil of New Jersey in 1947 and retired from EXXON in 1986. Bob worked his entire career at the world headquarters in New York, New York, completing his career working in Refinery Logistics Management. Bob also served with the Second Armored Division from 1950 to 1952 as part of the Army of Occupation in Germany. In his retirement Bob became an avid golfer, often golfing for 36 holes or more six days a week. He became an early morning fixture first at Dinsmore Golf Course in Staatsburg and then at College Hill Golf Course in Poughkeepsie where he would open the club house and start the first pot of coffee. In addition, Bob was a long time volunteer driver for Hyde Park Meals on Wheels, delivering meals to house bound seniors. In addition to his volunteer work, Bob became the family handyman, pitching in at all of his children's home improvement projects. He would consistently show up early in the morning with his tools, ready to get the project completed. He was always ready to apply his skills in woodworking, electrical, plumbing and dry walling to help out his family. Bob and his wife Isabella first moved to Teaneck, New Jersey and after the birth of their first son Thomas, they moved to Blauvelt, New York before moving to their current Hyde Park home in 1969. Bob became a member of the Saint James Parish with his family in 1969. Although Bob did not hold any official office, he was a very active volunteer at Saint James' Church. Bob enjoyed a long time involvement with the Boy Scouts, beginning in his youth and continuing as an adult. He was the Scoutmaster of Scout Troop 55 in Blauvelt, NY from 1958 to 1969, where he guided many young men to complete Eagle Scout. He attended many scouting events, jamborees and leadership classes, completing the Wood Badge, Scouting's premier training. When he relocated to Hyde Park, he became the assistant Scoutmaster of Scout Troop 73 from 1969 until 1973. In addition, Bob supported his children's involvement in 4-H Horse Clubs and the US Pony Club, where he and Isabella made many friends and were active as volunteers. Bob was predeceased by his wife of fifty-five years Isabella Maven Connolly. He is survived by his six children and their spouses: Thomas Connolly and his wife, Stephanie, of Rhinebeck, New York, Elizabeth Connolly and her partner, Gennaro Maiello, of Olean, New York, James Connolly and his wife, Mari, of Portland, Oregon, Margaret Connolly-Burkhart and her husband, Kurt, of Hyde Park, New York, Andrew Connolly and his wife, Susan, of Leonardtown, Maryland, and Peter Connolly of Chandler, Arizona. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren including; Robert Elwell, Kristin Connolly, Sean Connolly, Brendan Connolly, Stephen Burkhardt, Alexandra Burkhardt, Justin Huber, Josh Huber, James Reardon, Ian Connolly, Evan Connolly, Brooke Connolly, Aaron Burkhardt, Hannah Connolly, Brittany Connolly, Lindsey Connolly, Bryanna Burkhardt, Joshua Connolly, Alyssa Connolly and Zachary Connolly. He is also survived by his brother in-law, Robert Maven and his wife, Lee, of Fountainville, Pennsylvania, his niece Anne and nephews Craig, John, Ted and Alec, and is predeceased by his nephew William. The family will receive friends and visitors during calling hours on Friday, June 24, 2011 from 4pm until 6pm at Saint James' Church, 4626 Albany Post Road Hyde Park, New York. A celebration of life will be held at Saint James' Episcopal Church with a mass on Saturday June 25, 2011 at 2pm celebrated by the Reverend Charles Kramer, Rector. The internment will immediately follow the celebration at Saint James' Columbarium Memorial Garden. A reception will be held afterwards at the Saint James' Parish Hall. All family friends and those whose lives were touched by Bob are invited to attend both the mass and the reception.
