ADAMS, Robert McDonald B.A., M.A., Ph.D. October 30, 1928 - April 25, 2009 Dr. Robert McDonald Adams of Sidney B.C. passed away peacefully at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital in his 81st year. Born and raised in London, Ontario, Bob was predeceased by his parents Leon and Mildred Adams, later of Brantford, Ontario. He is sadly missed by his son Christopher, Victoria B.C., his daughter Laura, Port Orchard, Washington, his brothers Dr. Kenneth Adams, Middletown, New York, Dr. Paul Adams, Lac des Arcs, Alberta, his sister Joan Avison, Brantford, Ontario and seven nieces and nephews. A graduate of B.C.I and V.S, Brantford, Bob received his Honours B.A in Economics and Political Science from the University of Western Ontario, his M.A. in Economics from Queens University and his Ph.D. in Labour Economics following study at the London School of Economics, England and the University of Chicago. Bob proudly served his country for many years in Ottawa with the Treasury Board, the Department of Labour and as Assistant Deputy Minister of Manpower and Immigration. He was appointed labour attaché at the Canadian Embassy in Belgium and also served as the Canadian Consul-General in San Francisco for several years. Later he was Associate Professor of Industrial Relations and Director of the Industrial Relations Centre at McGill University in Montreal. He retired to Sidney, B.C. in 1989. Bob always maintained an interest in activities in Brantford and when a world-class swimming pool was being proposed for the city, he was able to direct the pool planning committee and city council to information on new sources of federal funding being made available to municipalities under a Manpower Winter Works program. This funding was very helpful in financing the cost of the exciting new Brant Aquatic Centre in 1974. A celebration of life for Bob's family and friends was held in Victoria, B.C. on May 5th, 2009. 11521245
