TUFTONBORO -- Robert L. Gallagher, 77, died April 17, 2009, at his Sawyer Point home with his loving wife and children at his side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 28, 1931, in Lancaster, Pa., to D. Lester and Euretta (Griest) Gallagher. He was a dairy farmer in Wakefield, Pa. until 1961, when he and his family moved to Wolfeboro, where he built and ran Barn Yesterday Cottages. For 25 years, beautiful Rust Pond was a wonderful environment to raise his family and create lifelong friendships with the many families who rented the cottages each year. He was employed by the Wolfeboro Oil and Lakeview Oil companies prior to forming Gallagher's Plumbing, Heating and Wiring with his oldest son, Michael. In 2006, he was predeceased by a son Robert Michael, who displayed the same courage and determination in his efforts to fight cancer as his father. Family members include his wife of 59 years, Nancy (Jenkins) Gallagher of Wolfeboro; two daughters, Patricia Lovering of Wolfeboro and Laurie Whittemore of Brookfield; a son Bryan Gallagher of Brookfield, nine grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; and nieces and nephews. SERVICES: A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to VNA-Hospice of Southern Carroll County, P.O. Box 1620, Wolfeboro 03894 or to Wolfeboro Food Pantry, c/o All Saint's Episcopal Church, South Main Street, Wolfeboro 03894.
