Richard Dick Nevers Sr., 74 PORTLAND -- Richard Dick M. Nevers Sr., 74, of Yarmouth, walked into the arms of Jesus on April 7, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with illnesses. He was born in Washburn, on July 24, 1933, the son of Amy (Moran) and Charles C. Nevers. Dick served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. During this time he had the good fortune to meet Lillian Ames and the good sense to marry her on Dec. 12, 1953, in Portland. Together they had five children. Dick worked for W.S. Hodgkins for 35 years retiring in 1995. Dick loved the Red Sox, and believe it or not, the Giants too. He also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and horseshoes. He was a storyteller with a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling Sunday morning jokes. Dick will be remembered for his great love of Jesus Christ and his dedication to the Lighthouse Christian Church for the past 35 years. His faith was an inspiration to others and it made a difference in his family's life His love of others not only showed itself in his kindness of heart but also in living life with integrity and pride when doing for others whatever was called for. He was a good neighbor. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lillian M. Nevers of Yarmouth; his five children: Nancy Swett and her husband Steve of Yarmouth; Rick Nevers of Yarmouth; Jeff Nevers of Yarmouth; Terry Palmer and her husband Mark of Presque Isle; Amy Dolloff and her husband Tod of Naples; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. His surviving siblings are three sisters: Doreen Blake and her husband Herb; Linda Allen; Donna Manalaysay and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Charles Nevers Sr., his mother, Amy Nelson; his brother Charlie Nevers Jr., and sister Lucinda Antiss. A funeral service will be on Thursday, April 10, at 11 a.m. at Lighthouse Christian Church, 636 Spring St., Westbrook. A private family burial will follow in Brooklawn Cemetery in Portland. Visitation was held on Wednesday at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth.
