of Washington, D.C. formerly of Yonkers, NY died at his home on April 1, 2002 at the age of 69. His presence was made known by his "Zest for Life, Music, Song and Conversation." While a resident in Yonkers, he attended St. Casimir's Church and was member of it's St. Cecelia Choir. He was born in Yonkers on September 13, 1932, the son of the late Patrick and Florence (Betley) Keating. He graduated from St. Joseph's Grammar School in Yonkers and All Hallows High School in the Bronx, NY. Mr. Keating graduated from Manhattan College with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He received a Master of Science in Education from New Paltz Teachers College and was certified as a School Psychologist. While earning his M.A., in Psychology at Fordham University Graduate School, he held Substitute Teaching positions in the Yonkers and New York City Public School System. In June of 1960, he was appointed Director of Special Education by the Board of Education of the Union Free School District 6, in Seaford, L.I. Mr. Keating received a Doctorate of Education from Teachers College Columbia University. He published " A Study of the Effectiveness of Language Laboratories." It was a Preliminary Evaluation of Twenty-One School Systems of the Metropolitan School Study Council. In Washington, he joined the Office of Economic Opportunity and worked with Job Corps as an Educational Advisor, and later worked for the Small Business Administration. Dr. Keating served as assistant director in the U.S. Department of State's Agency for International Development. The AID program is an overseas assistance organization employing technical advisers for the development of countries abroad. In 1967, as an educational adviser, he worked with the Vietnamese educators, identifying their problems and assisted them in improving instructional techniques in curriculum. Upon his return from Vietnam, he returned to work for the Small Business Administration. He retired in 1985. He is survived by his loving sister Alice Siminsky, nieces Mrs. Joseph (Janet) Ribeiro and Karen Siminsky, nephew Joseph Siminsky and 3 grand-nephews : Christopher, Brian and David Ribeiro, of whom he was most proud. Family will receive visitors at Duchynski-Cherko Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday, April 26, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 27th, at St. Casimir's Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
