Peter James Dempsey, of Bloomfield, N.J., passed away on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at his home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at The Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, N.J., 340 Main Street, West Orange, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visiting will be Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. Peter was born in Newark, N.J. to Vera (Burke) and Thomas Dempsey. Peter was one of eight children. He was raised in East Orange, N.J. and as he got older he lived in various cities until settling in Bloomfield in 1998. Pete worked in PSE&G for 34 years, starting off as a helper and later as a crane operator. He was very involved in his Union, Local 1335, and later became their President. His favorite past times were fishing, hanging at the gas station with his friends, and listening to his Doo Wop music. Peter was predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Judy Halvorson and Jean Milhomme. Surviving are his loving wife, Barbara Ann (nee Terregino). He was the father of Renee Corbett (Jim), Peter Dempsey (Debbie), and John Dempsey; loving step-father of Gerald Smith (Kim) and Richard Smith (Anna); cherished grandfather of Casey, Ryan, Dylan, Madison, and Genevieve. He was the loving brother of Thomas, Paul, David, Michael and Debbie Astorita; brother-in-law of John and Flo Manning, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peter's name to the St. Jude Tribute Program, PO Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, Tenn. 38101-9908.
