Avis de décès de Paul Meyer

MEYER _ Paul Meyer, born October 9, 1916, passed away on September 14, 2003. He has been known among a great many friends and associates, and he will be deeply missed. He is survived by his brother Max Meyer and his nephew Larry. His life story is that of a remarkable person. Paul's mother, Alice Meyer, passed away in 1992, in Vancouver, and his father much previously. He was born in Cologne, Germany, where his family lived until the start of the last war. The family survived the Holocaust, and came to Vancouver after the war. But many of their relatives did not survive. At the age of 50, Paul graduated from U.B.C. with a Diploma in Adult Education. He went on to other years of education and involvement with British Columbia Institute of Technology and Support of its Student Financial Aid Program. He developed a course in "Planning for Retirement", which he felt strongly as a plan for prospective "retirees" to use the "new-found" leisure time in pleasant and productive ways. For many years he became involved with the "Save our Parkland Association", which after many years succeeded in bringing about the Van Dusen Botanical Gardens. He took an active part in the saving of Brock House, which is today a very popular place for many of the seniors of the city, and many others. Most recently, for his contributions, part of Brook House has been named the "Meyer Room". Apart from his many involvements for the benefit of our city, Paul was himself a keen sportsman. For a long time he played tennis at the Jericho Tennis Club and often, after playing, bringing out his accordion. He was a regular golfer, a skier, and a horseman. He kept up these sports until after his 86th birthday, until his health failed him only recently. He leaves us, as a great supporter of many charities. Services will be held at First Memorial, 1505 Lillooet Road in North Vancouver, on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at 11:00 a.m.
