Patty Jean Barrett, 76, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Wednesday, June, 1, 2011.Patty was born March 1, 1935, in Bowling Green, Ky., a daughter of the late Walter Parker and Birdie Jackson Parker. Patty was one of nine children. She was a nurse and homemaker for many years. Patty was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Fort Walton Beach. She was an avid runner, averaging 50 miles a week for over 40 years. Her hobbies included gardening and a love for the beach. Her family remembers her as a loving wife, unselfish and giving. Though she did not have any children of her own, she assisted in raising several children and made a lasting impression in their lives. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Steen and Louise Fry. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Michael Barrett of Fort Walton Beach; two sisters, Joan Salmons and her husband, Bill, of Palm Coast, and Mary Lou Cummings and her husband, Des, of Orlando, Fla.; four brothers, Bill Parker and his wife, Tammie, of Somerset, Ohio, Scott Parker of Boone, N.C., Chuck Parker and his wife, Marcia, of Nashville, Tenn., and Steve Parker and his wife, Melinda, of Gallatin, Tenn.; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She also leaves behind her companion dog, Mickey.A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Fort Walton Beach. Pastors Roger Burke and Martin Fancher will be officiating.
