Michael F. Slattery SchenectadyMichael F. Slattery, 76, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 5, 2014. Born in Albany, Michael was the son of Angeline McCabe Slattery and the late John (Jack) Slattery. A graduate of Vincentian Institute (1955), Hamilton College (1959) and Duquesne Law School, Michael spent the majority of his professional career as an attorney with the New York State Legislative Billdrafting Commission. Besides Mike's love and devotion to his family, he held fond memories of all of his teammates at VI and Hamilton, where his team remains the only undefeated football team in the Continentals' history. Recognized for his athletic talent in 1958 when he was named to the Little All American Football Team and All-East as a fullback and linebacker, his love of the game remained strong as a coach as well as avid spectator of local teams. In addition to his mother, Mike is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl (Hostig) Slattery; his daughter, Laura Slattery; his siblings, Anne (Tony) Fleishman, Denis (Kyla) Slattery, John Slattery, Frank (Linda) Slattery, Mary Ellen Pistana, Carol (James) Smith; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 812 Union Street, Schenectady. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery in Maplewood.
