ST. JOHN Melva Born on February 7, 1930 in Herbert Saskatchewan, and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Burnaby General Hospital. Gone but remembered with love by her five surviving children: Debbi Truchan (Bob), Penny DeMarsh (Morley) Richard Capostinsky (Yeona), JoAnn Pinette, Joe Capostinsky (Charmene), grandchildren: Noah, Paul, (Marlema), Michael, Aaron, Eamon, Sam, Evan, Alena, Jason, Lindsey, Craig, and Casey, and her great grandchild, Justin. She was predeceased by, her parents, Howard and Flora St. John, her sisters Beatrice Pearl and May (Knox) Alice and Twin sister, Mary, brothers, Ray, Jack and Bruce, her children, Mona (DuVall), and Dawn Capostinsky. She was survived by her brothers Howard, Frank, Clair, and Jim: sisters, Gladys, and Ruth. Melva was the second born of twins by her midwife at home. She was named after the first year school teacher. Her family farmed for a living. Through the years they moved to Wynyard, Saskatchewan, and Lulu Island, until they moved to Vancouver in 1943. After attending school at Britannia High School, and working at the hospital, she moved to Clearwater and met and married Paul Capostinsky, through her friend Eva Capostinsky (married name Eva Buck). Melva was an independent woman from beginning to end, and walked to the beat of her own drum. She was musical and taught herself to play the accordion. She enjoyed country music. She had a wry sense of humour and was able to laugh at herself. We will miss Melva, but we are glad she suffered little at the end and is at peace. The family would like to thank Three Links Care Centre for their gentle and concerned care of Melva during her stay with them. Service and reception to be held at First Memorial Funeral Services on Saturday June 7th - 602 Kingsway - in the reception room at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society.
