Mary Theresa MurphyLoving Mother and Grandmother LOWELL, MA -- On September 20, 2011, Mary Theresa (Gath) Murphy entered into rest and to the glory of the Resurrection promised by the Lord. She was 76 years old, and had battled Diabetes her whole life. Mary was the beloved wife of the late Paul F. Murphy, Sr. who died on May 17, 1987.Mary was born in Lowell on April 10, 1935, a daughter of the late George J. Gath, Sr. and Mabel (Gannon) Gath. She was a graduate of the Immaculate Conception School and Keith Hall. Mary was employed for over 24 years at the Edith Nourse Rogers Veterans Memorial Hospital in Bedford, retiring as the Head Bookkeeper. Mary was a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart Church and the Immaculate Conception Church. Mary was a member of the Sacred Heart Ladies Guild, the Sacred Heart Band, and was president of the Band Boosters Club. She also held membership in the Red Hat Society, and was the Queen Mother of the Red Hat Society. Mary enjoyed her many trips with the members of the Red Hat Society. She also enjoyed playing bingo with her many friends at the Sacred Heart Church. Mary enjoyed cooking, dining out, and shopping. She also liked going to the beaches of New Hampshire and Maine. Mary especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.Surviving Mary are her seven children, Mary M. Wood and her husband Ronald A. Wood of Dunstable, Colleen A. Camelio and her husband Mario Camelio of Litchfield, NH, Marilyn E. Charbonneau and her husband Marc R. Charbonneau of Bedford, NH, Margaret M. Murphy of Lowell and her fiancé Thomas Ullo, Sr. of Tewksbury, Patrick G. Murphy and his wife Sandra A. (Isabelle) Murphy of Dunstable, Michael P. Murphy of Lowell, and Paul F. Murphy, Jr. and his fiancé Linda Clough of Dracut; two sisters, Judith Newell of Lowell and Mabel Tully and her husband David E. Tully, Sr. of Dunstable; three brothers, George J. Gath, Jr. and his wife Esther of Lowell, Cornelius Gath, Sr. of Tewksbury, and Daniel W. Gath and his wife Theresa of Arizona; seven grandchildren, William F. Bertrand, Jr. Caitlin K. Murphy, Sarah N. Charbonneau, Michaela L. Murphy, Lauren R. Camelio, Mitchell R. Charbonneau, and Catherine T. Camelio; one great-grandson, Ethyn W. Bertrand; many nieces and nephews. Mary was the sister of the late John Gath and sister-in-law of the late Ann Gath. Mary was also the sister-in-law of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Murphy, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Murphy, and Mr. and Mrs. William Murphy.MURPHY -- In Nashua, September 20, 2011 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Ctr., Mary Theresa (Gath) Murphy, 76, longtime Lowell resident and wife of the late Paul F. Murphy, Sr.Family and friends may call at the FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL, on FRIDAY from 4 until 8 P.M. Mary's Funeral will begin on SATURDAY MORNING at 10 o'clock from the Funeral Home, followed by her Funeral Mass which will be celebrated by her Godson, the Rev. Brendan Murphy, O.P. at 11 o'clock at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH (LOWER CHURCH)144 East Merrimack Street, Lowell. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
