MARY KATHRYN STANTON CROWN POINT, IN Mary Kathryn Stanton, "Torchy", age 72, of Crown Point, formerly of Glen Park, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2009, following a brief illness. The daughter of Gilbert and Laura Gruenberg, she grew up in Glen Park and graduated from Lew Wallace High School, class of 1954. She received her Bachelor Degree from the University of Colorado, her Masters Degree from Purdue Calumet, and her EDD Degree from Purdue University-Lafayette. Mary Kay taught in East Chicago, Vallejo, CA, Bloomington, IN, Crown Point Schools, Portage Schools, Purdue Calumet and North Central and Davenport Business College. At the time of her death, she was an administrator for the Portage Schools. She loved traveling and had the opportunity to take many wonderful trips, some of which included opera performances, another of her interests. She enjoyed reading, plays and the symphony. Her greatest enjoyment, though, came from time spent with her grandchildren, who brought a special joy to her life. She was a good mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed by many. Mary Kay was preceded in death by her parents: Gilbert and Laura Gruenberg. She is survived by two sons: Dennis Patrick (D'Ann) Stanton of Denver, CO and D. Terrance (Kim) Stanton of Crown Point; three grandchildren: Sean, Layne and McCoy; siblings: Gretchen Gruenberg of New York and Paris, Patricia (Gordon) Stalgren of New Mexico and Gilbert D. Gruenberg of Portage. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN with Rev. Joseph Vamos officiating. Cremation at the Burns Funeral Home Crematory will precede the memorial service. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Portage Education Foundation/Mary Kay Stanton Scholarship Fund. www.burnsfuneral.com
