WESTERBERT, Mary Frew (nee Allan) Royal Canadian Legion Montgomery Branch #351 Peacefully in hospital on Monday, September 1, 2008, at the age of 85, after a courageous battle with cancer and Alzheimer's. Beloved wife and soulmate of Arnold Rudolph Westerbert for 62 wonderful years. Mary was born in Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland, October 23, 1922 to Annie Frew and Andrew Allan. Mary served as a Mobile V.A.D. Nursing Member during WW II at British Red Cross facilities attached to Royal Naval Establishments at: R.N. Auxiliary Hospital, Kingseat, Newmachar, Aberdeenshire and at Royal Naval Sick Quarters, Greenock, Scotland. Mary also served at R.N.H. Keil, Southend, Kintyre, Argyllshire, Scotland. Mary will be fondly remembered by niece Jean Allan and Jarah Allan of London, Ontario, Jonathan and Paul Soles of Toronto, niece Andrea Tallo (George) of Glenrothes, Fifeshire, Scotland, niece Ann Paterson (David) of Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland, nephew Jack Campbell (Morag) of Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland and niece Marilyn Thomson of London, England. A graveside service will be held at the National Military Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Ave., Ottawa, Ontario on Friday, September 5, 2008 at 2 p.m. Heartfelt thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and support staff at the Ottawa General Hospital-Emergency Departments, E8, E15, 7115, 7113-2, 5NE, 5400-2, 5412 and the Palliative Care Unit at the Ottawa General Hospital who provided such compassionate and tender care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Ottawa Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated. Published in the Ottawa Citizen from 9/3/2008- 9/4/2008
