Mary Ellen Chapman, known affectionately as "Chappie" by her family and friends, 88, of Hendersonville, N.C., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008. A native of Laurens, S.C., she had lived in Hendersonville for the past 54 years. She was a nurse of Dr. P.J. Moore's for 32 years before retiring in 1982. A faithful member of The Fletcher Seventh-day Adventist Church, she served as a volunteer in the office for 12 years. She was the daughter of the late John Nathan Richardson and Norcum Shepherd Richardson. Her husband David; brother, John and niece, Judy preceded her in death. Surviving are one niece, Penny Brewster Long and her husband, Wesley Long of Frostburg, Md. Close friends include: her Moore family of Dr. P.J. Moore, Jr., Dr. and Mrs. P.J. Moore III, Dr. and Mrs. William Moore, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Moore, Lucretia Moore Pintacuda and Jay Pintacuda, Dr. and Mrs. David Moore, Ellen and Leon Lamb, Annette Cooper, Dr. and Mrs. John Lorntz, Cora McMinn, Marge Brown, Sharon Pearson and many others who dearly loved her. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 19, 2008, at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens, S.C. A memorial service will be held at The Fletcher Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1141 Howard Gap Road, Fletcher, NC 28732 at 6 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2008. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be made to Fletcher Academy, Fletcher, NC 28732 or a charity of your choice. Hillcrest Memorial Park, Pickens, S.C., is in charge of arrangements.
