Avis de décès de Martin-J. Connolly


Martin J. Connolly, 93 KENNEBUNKPORT -- Martin J. Connolly, 93, of Kennebunkport, died Wednesday evening at St. Andre's Health Care Facility in Biddeford. He was born in Boston, Mass., on March 11, 1915, the son of Patrick and Mary Ellen (Barrett) Connolly. During World War II, Martin was assigned to the OSS, serving tours in England and Italy. His final assignment was in Washington, D.C. where he met his future wife Elizabeth at a Washington Senator's baseball game. They married in 1946, and he was absolutely and unconditionally devoted to her Together they enjoyed 59 wonderful years until her death in 2005. Martin and his wife raised their family in North Reading, Mass. during his 40 year career as a salesman for Armstrong Flooring. Upon his retirement, he and his wife relocated to Maine and enjoyed their retirement home on Goose Rocks Beach. Martin was a member of the Lions Club, North Reading, Mass.; and the Holy Name Society, St. Theresa's Parish. He also served as North Reading Town Moderator, and on the North Reading School Committee for many years. He was an active leader in the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts programs. He was instrumental in establishing the Little League program in North Reading. In his spare time, he enjoyed golf, fishing, bowling, and gardening. In addition to his loving wife Elizabeth, Martin was predeceased by three brothers, Patrick, George and John Connolly, and two sisters, Kathleen Churchill and Eleanor Guze. Survivors include three sons, Paul Connolly and his wife Evelyn of North Reading, Mass., Robert Connolly and his wife Monique of Kittery, Peter Connolly and his wife Sally of Cape Elizabeth; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. There are no calling hours. A Graveside service at the Maine Veteran's Cemetery in Augusta will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are in care of Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. www.bibberfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Martin's memory to the charity of one's choice.
