MICHAEL ERNEST KEEFE December 9, 1943 - May 2, 2015 Michael leaves his loving wife, Judy (St. Marie) and his cherished daughters, Cassandra and Alexis, as well as his brothers, Terry (Laima), Kevin (Anna), his sister Maureen Besteman (Al), in-laws, Kathleen and Gene St. Marie, Patty and Paul Sloggett, Michelle Ste. Marie, Stephen and Keiko St. Marie, several nieces and nephews and many Keefe cousins, as well as two aunts, Molly Murch and Joyce Smee. Michael was predeceased by his parents Ernest McMahon Keefe and Patricia Fitzgerald, his sister, Patricia Sabath (Jack) and sister-in-law, Dawn St. Marie (Paul McMinn). Michael attended Neil McNeil High School where he played most sports, including golf, with two lifelong friends, Paul Iacono and Michael Shea. He came to appreciate the game of golf as a caddy at Scarboro Golf and Country Club, hitchhiking there long before he could drive. He continued a lifelong love of the game and shared his passion with Judy and Cassandra. After Michael and Judy married in 1966, at St. John's Church, Michael returned to school to obtain a business degree from Ryerson. While Judy taught school, Michael helped out with expenses by working as a bouncer at various downtown establishments. Michael was President and CEO of Global Driver Services Inc. which served the transportation needs of the Canadian and US trucking industry since 1976 and was the industry's first personnel supplier to achieve ISO certification. He was also a founding member of the Private Motor Truck Council of Canada and also served on the Board of Directors of the Transportation Safety Association. Michael enjoyed cottage life in Muskoka where he was an enthusiastic boater and golfer. He especially enjoyed Men's Day at the Lake Joseph Club and was also a longtime member of The Toronto Hunt. He also took up curling at Scarboro but gave it up when he decided to spend the winters in Naples, Florida, where he loved the camaraderie on and off the course at Wyndemere Country Club. Michael was a generous, kind and loving friend who enjoyed hosting and was beloved by all. He was a successful businessman and a contributor to his community, sitting on the Toronto East General Hospital Foundation Board for many years. If you wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to TEGH Foundation Board, 825 Coxwell Ave., Toronto, M4C 3E7 or to the Palliative Care Unit, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, 610 University Ave., Toronto, M5G 2M9. Visitation will be held at SHERRIN FUNERAL HOME, 873 Kingston Rd. (416-698-2861), on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place at St. John's Church, 794 Kingston Rd., on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 11 a.m. Online condolences may be made at www.sherrinfuneral.ca
