In Loving Memory Of Mary Helen Mahoney Dowd Mary Helen Mahoney Dowd peacefully departed our mortal world to the Kingdom of Heaven on February 21 surrounded by family after a long illness. She was 83. Born November 24, 1922 in St. Albans Vermont to Mary Riley and John Mahoney, Mary Helen graduated from Mount St. Mary's Academy and Trinity College Class of 1945 in Burlington, Vermont. Mary Helen married the late Dr. James A. Sudbay, Jr. in June 1945 and together they raised their family of four children in Port Chester, New York. Mary Helen was predeceased by her first husband of 34 years who died in June 1979. Mary Helen celebrated 20 years of marriage and is survived by her husband Francis J Dowd of Madison, CT. Mary Helen was an active volunteer for the Port Chester United Hospital Twig Association and an ardent supporter of Catholic Charities and uniquely devoted to her alma mater and the Sisters of Mercy. Mary Helen had a gift for social grace, devotion to family, and enjoyed playing competitive bridge and hilarious backgammon with her friends from Westchester County, NY to Siesta Key, FL. Mary Helen is also survived by her children James and Donna Sudbay of Sarasota, FL; Patricia and Nolan West of Westport, CT; Maureen and Albert Koegler of Madison, CT; and Lawrence and Jan Sudbay of Shelburne, VT. In addition, step-sons James and Diane Dowd of Mahopac, NY; John and Denise Dowd of Mahopac, NY; along with 10 grandchildren. A celebration of life is planned April 8 at the Our Lady of Mercy Church, Port Chester, New York with a Memorial Mass at 11:15 AM. A committal service will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Rye Brook, NY. Arrangements by Craft Memorial Home.
