CONCORD -- M. Frances Leary died Nov. 4, 2009, at CRVNA Hospice House after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. A lifelong resident of Concord, she was born in Concord to Patrick and Mary (Walsh) Leary. She attended St. John's School and was a graduate of Concord High School. Miss Leary was a secretary to the late U.S. Circuit Judge Hugh H. Bownes from 1968 until her retirement in 1988 and secretary to the late U.S. District Judge A.J. Connor from 1957 to 1968. Previous to that, she was employed by the U.S. Clerk of Courts and the Internal Revenue Service. Miss Leary was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church. She was past Regent of the Catholic Daughters of Americans, Court Margaret K. Desmond, No 167, to which she was awarded life membership in 2002. She was a charter member of the Carmelite Guild. Miss Leary was also a member of the Federal Judicial Secretaries Association. She traveled extensively with tour groups throughout Europe. She was particularly pleased to visit Ireland and the Vatican. Family includes many cousins. SERVICES: Visiting hours are Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main St., Concord. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 72 South Main St., Concord. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Concord.
