DUNBAR, Lurena Jean (nee Kinniburgh)January 6, 1926 – Calgary, AlbertaFebruary 21, 2017 – Calgary, AlbertaLurena Jean Dunbar of Calgary, Alberta, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the age of 91 years. Jean was born in Calgary, Alberta, to Mortimer and Lurena Kinniburgh (nee Wright) of Airdrie, AB. She worked on the family farm, then moved to Calgary to attend high school and business school, training as a bookkeeper. She moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan to work for Canadian Bakeries before returning to Calgary to work for the Mannix group. After her marriage in 1948, she became a full- time homemaker, and volunteered for many organisations while raising her family in the Highland Park area of Calgary. Jean was an avid sports fan, played women''s fastball in her youth (as she said, without a glove in those days!), loved skating, excelled at 5-pin bowling and cribbage, and enjoyed watching football and hockey. She loved to travel with her husband and family in their truck & trailer, vacationing in Western Canada and the United States, and seeing friends and relatives during their journeys. Jean was a very social person who enjoyed getting together with family and friends, and loved dining and dancing at the Royal Canadian Legion with her husband until her health prevented it. Jean faced many challenges throughout her life with courage, grace, and a persistent and positive spirit. Jean is survived by her sister Margaret Murtha of Edmonton, AB; sister-in-law Agnes Kinniburgh of Vermilion, AB; sons and daughters-in-law Craig and Michelle, and Terry and Karen; grandchildren Laura (Tyler Pubben), Carolyn, Meghan, Kimberly, Connor, and Elaina; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence; her brothers John, Frederick (Ted), twins Donald and Douglas; her sister Kathleen; sister- in-law Joan (nee Clandillon); and brother-in-law Stanley Murtha. The family wishes to thank the many medical specialists who assisted Jean, especially Dr. Peter Thornton, as well as Dr. R. Geoff Williams, Dr. Jonathan Y. Wong, and Dr. T.J. McKay. The family also appreciates the efforts of the many staff at the Wentworth Manor Residence and Rockyview General Hospital Unit 74 for their dedicated care and compassion.
