Laurent Joseph Albert Nolet , of Mattice Death: September 27th, 2001 A memorial service for pioneer Mattice-Hearst area resident Laurent Joseph Alfred Nolet, 81, of the Foyer des Pionniers Nursing Home was held Sept. 29, 2001. He died Sept. 27 at Notre-Dame Hospital. Born Oct. 8, 1919 in Ste-Germaine, Dorchester, Quebec, he came to Mattice in 1921, moved to Kapuskasing in the late 1960s as a salesman for Uptown Motors, and then came to Hearst in 1973. A town employee beginning in May 1975, he retired in October 1984 as a Hearst Recreation Centre icemaker. A handyman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and making bird houses. He was predeceased by wife Mariette (née Brousseau) Nolet in 1999, a son Bertrand in 1957, and infant sons Marc G. and Marc A., brothers Marcel and Thomas Nolet, both in Mattice, and sisters Maria Plamondon, Victoria Plamondon and Roseanna Nadeau, all in Mattice, and Simone Leclerc, in Kapuskasing. He leaves sons Donald (Lise) of Opasatika and Aimé (Hélène) Nolet of Hearst, and daughters Annette (Tom) Purchase of London, Gemma (Dave) Gale of Calgary and Bella (Louis) Laflamme of Hearst. Also surviving are Georgette (Amédée) Tanguay and Laurette Bizier, all of Kapuskasing, brothers Rosario Nolet of Toronto, Simon (Jeanne D'Arc), Victor (Thérèse), and Luc (Denise), all of Kapuskasing, as well as 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Cremation was done at the Hillcrest Crematorium in Matheson. Rev. René Grandmont officiated the service at the St-François-Xavier Church. Interment followed at the St-François-Xavier Cemetery. Funeral director was the Lafrance Funeral Home. The family has requested that commemorative gifts be made to the Foyer or Canadian Diabetes Association. Published on September 27th, 2001
