MacKAY, Laura Ann (February 3, 1973 to February 4, 2010) It is with great sadness that Laura's family announces her untimely death following a cycling accident in Masca, Tenerife, Spain, on February 4, 2010. She is survived by her husband, Travis Eltom, Edmonton; her parents, Bert and Caroline MacKay, St. Albert; her parents-in-law, Bob and Clara Eltom, Unity, Saskatchewan; her siblings, Ross, Calgary, Marion (Chad), Gunn, and Rory, St. Albert; her brother and sister-in-law, Brett and Alison Eltom and nephew Drew, Swift Current, Saskatchewan; her aunt, Angela Gibot, Edmonton; and her cousin, Julia (Corey) Gibot, Spruce Grove. Her passing is mourned by many friends and numerous relatives in Scotland. Laura was born in Fort McMurray, Alberta, where she attended Dr. K.A. Clark School, Peter Pond School, Fort McMurray Composite High School, and Keyano College. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree (Psychology) from the University of Calgary (1996) and a Master's of Arts (Psychology) Degree (1999) from New York State University (Buffalo). At the time of her death, Laura was employed as a Mental Health Therapist with the Capital Health Region (Sherwood Park, Edmonton). She was a gifted pianist. Laura was very passionate about endurance sports. She competed in dozens of run races, from 10 km to Marathons. Laura's passion evolved into triathlons where she competed in Olympic Distance to Ironman events. Laura and Travis loved to train and compete together, travelling all over the world chasing their dreams. They were inseparable and were always seen training together or simply enjoying each other's company. Laura's family is greatly comforted knowing that Travis, her loving and devoted husband, was beside her when she died. Cremation has taken place.
