Katherine Theresa Olive Newman, formerly of Wellesley, died tragically on January 12, 2012 at her home in Oakville, Ontario at the age of 43. Loving mother of Thomas, Joshua, and James. Cherished daughter of The Honorable Walter T. Stayshyn, sister of Ted Stayshyn, niece, aunt and cousin to many other beloved family members. Katherine enjoyed and excelled at her career in the health care field, having obtained her BSc in Nursing at the University of Western Ontario and her Masters in Hospital Administration from the University of Toronto. Katherine was a resident of Wellesley until 2008 when she returned to Canada. Her sons attended our local schools and participated in Wellesley Youth Hockey and Soccer. She was known for her exceptional devotion and caring to her children and their school, sports, and extracurricular activities. Katherine was a breast cancer patient while living in Wellesley, fought bravely and won the battle with the support of the Wellesley community. After moving home to Canada, Katherine and her family continued to be very close to their Wellesley friends, spending vacations together and visiting the town often. Katherine will be deeply missed by her many close friends in our community. A memorial service will be held at Beveridge Hall on Dana Hall Campus at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 10th. On the evening of March 10th, a fundraiser will be held to help rebuild the lives of the three Newman boys, who are coping with the devastating loss of both of their parents on the same day. To ensure they have a promising future, the Newman Boys Trust Fund was established by relatives of the family for their education and care. For inquiries regarding the March 10th fundraiser, please contact newmanboysbenefit@gmail.com. Donations to the trust can be made at NewmanBoysTrustFund.ca.
