Avis de décès de Joseph Dunbar

FITCHBURG -- Joseph H. Dunbar, 85, of Fitchburg, died on Monday evening in HealthAlliance Hospital/Leominster after an extended illness. He was born on Nov. 29, 1922, in Attleboro, the son of Joseph and Caroline (Christianson) Dunbar and lived in Fitchburg since 1945. He worked as a dryer operator for the former Great American Chemical Co. of Fitchburg for more than 10 years and had to suspend working due to illness. He retired in 1983. During the Depression, he worked for the Civil Conservation Corps. In 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an Army Ranger and Communications Chief and served in the Western Pacific. He was in the 767th Tank Battalion. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He was a life member of the British American Club in Fitchburg, and was a Scout Master for many years. Joe was also a huge New York Giants fan. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Fitchburg. He leaves his wife of 63 years, Mary E. (Pelletier) Dunbar; his sons, William J. Dunbar and his wife, Judy, of Fitchburg, David A. Dunbar and his wife, Katie, of Townsend; three daughters, Marlene J. and her husband, Lawrence Frechette, of Fitchburg, Christine A. Grenier of Fitchburg and Nettie E. and her fiance, John Hathaway II, of Fitchburg; one sister, Marion Baker of Attleboro; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers and six sisters. DUNBAR -- The funeral will be held on Friday, April 4, from the Lavery Chartrand & Alario Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus, 59 Vernon St., Fitchburg, with the Interment to follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Calling hours are on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m.
