John P. Duffy, 92, of Maple Downs Fayetteville, died peacefully at St. Camillus Health Rehab Center following a short illness. Born in Binghamton, he was the son of the late James and Maude Duffy. He graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Binghamton NY. He served in the European Theater in World War II as a radar mechanic with the 584th Bomb Squadron attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He graduated from Scranton University and did his graduate studies at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. He was employed 27 years with the V.A. Hospital in Syracuse as a microbiologist. This was followed by 10 years employment at SUNY Binghamton in their biology lab. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Chittenango and a former communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Syracuse. He was also a member of the St. Patrick's Knights of Columbus. Jack was an avid golfer and enjoyed a bocce ball league in his later years. He thought the world of his family and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen D. McAllister of Syracuse; five sons, Philip (Shawn) of Liverpool, Daniel of Syracuse, Michael (Michele) of Vestal, Charles (Patricia) of Syracuse and Patrick of Apalachin, NY; ten grandchildren, Michael, Colin, Daniel, Bridget, Colleen Duffy McAllister, Kelly, Christopher, Conor, Erin and Lauren Duffy; two great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Cameron; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Marie E. Duffy; and his sister, Jean McClulland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Church in Chittenango. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville.
