UntitledCMDR. JOHN LARKIN HALLIGAN, USN RETIREDCmdr. John Larkin Halligan USN Retired, passed away on December 7, 2008.John was born October 7, 1919 in Lansing Michigan the son of Professor Charles, and Lillian Halligan. He graduated from East Lansing High School in 1937 and from Michigan State College in 1941 with a degree in landscape Architecture. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Jane Glutting. He is survived by his four children, John (Debbie) Halligan, Mary (Bob) Robyak, James (Cindy) Halligan, and Julie (Tab) Bates, as well as 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.John entered the U.S. Navy in 1942, where he served during WWII and the Korean Conflict after which he remained active in the US Navy Reserves He retired as a Commander. His career then led him to civil service work with the US Army Corp of Engineers until 1979.John was a devoted Catholic and member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church of Pensacola, Florida. He enjoyed playing tennis, bowling, bridge and gardening. His other memberships and interests included: The National Naval Aviation Museum Foundation, the Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis Club of Pensacola, Mantua Hills Homeowner's Association, Kappa Sigma Fraternity, the Retired Officers Association, and the Navy League. He was past President of the Perdido Key Association and an Honorary Admiral of the Great State of Nebraska. In addition, he served as U.S. Navy Benefits Advisor at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola.A memorial mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 27th at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church, Annandale, Virginia at 10:30 a.m. Following the mass, a committal service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at 1pm. Family and friends are to assemble at the Administration Building at 12:30 p.m.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memoriam of John Halligan to the Naval Aviation Museum foundation, 1750 Radford Boulevard, Suite B, Pensacola FL 32508 (www.NavalAviationMuseum.org)
