Dalton, John C. of Wellesley, a physician for over 55 years at the Massachusetts General Hospital, died on June 23 at the age of 86 after a long struggle with Parkinsons Disease. His practice touched many patients from all walks of life; he was respected for his knowledge and care. Dr. Dalton was born in Norfolk, Virginia, the son of Charles R. Dalton and Evelyn Caulfield Dalton. He attended schools in Norfolk and graduated from Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia. He attended the University of Virginia and the University of Virginia Medical School before graduating from Harvard Medical School in 1950. During World War II, he served in the Navy where he was in an accelerated program. Three years later, he was assigned to the U.S. Marine Corps for two years during the Korean conflict. During the 1950s, Dr. Dalton chose to complete all the requirements for his Boards in Internal Medicine. He was a Resident on the Harvard Service at the Boston City Hospital, a Resident at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and a Cardiac Resident at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He was in the last group of residents to study under Dr. Paul D. White. Following his residency, Dr. Dalton opened his office for the practice of Internal Medicine. He was on the Visiting Staff of the Chelsea Soldiers Home where he served as Chief of the Fifth Medical Service for a period of time and the Hahnemann Hospital where he served as President of the Staff for two years. Dr. Dalton was on the active staff of the Massachusetts General Hospital for over 55 years. He was officially appointed Physician, Massachusetts General Hospital. Over the years, Dr. Dalton was honored by his patients who paid tribute to his care when they dedicated the 16th floor of the Ellison Building in his name as well as the Surgical Services Waiting Room and several work areas on the medical floors at MGH. In 1951, he married Olga Fehr Wells of Waban, Mass and their long marriage of 62 years was filled with happy memories of golf and tennis and travelling with their three children and nine grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah D. Robertson and her husband Russell Robertson of Short Hills, N.J., his son Randolph A. Dalton and his wife Susan of Simsbury Ct., and his daughter Susan and her husband Gregory A. Spitzer of Lincoln Ma. In addition to his nine grandchildren he leaves six great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late C. Robert Dalton, Esq. of Norfolk, VA. No matter how busy Dr. Dalton was over the years, he always found the time to be with his family. They were members of St. Andrews Church for 56 years and the Weston Golf Club for 52 years where he was often seen with his wife, children, grandchildren and dog. A Memorial Service will be held at St Andrews Episcopal Church, corner of Denton Rd. and Washington St. WELLESLEY on Wednesday, June 26 at 2:30 PM. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
