James Luther Whitman, 86, husband of Lorene Brown Whitman, died Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at the Bristol Regional Hospital in Bristol, Tenn. A native of Central, he was the son of the late Luther and Elizabeth James Whitman.In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Larry K. Whitman and his wife, Elizabeth, of Easley; daughters, Shelby W. Welborn of Liberty, Rita W. Moore and husband, David, of Liberty; brothers, Buford Whitman of Kingsport, Tenn. and George Whitman of Virginia; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.The funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home in Central with burial to follow in Mt Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11 to 1 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
