STEPHENS James Joseph "Joe", 85, of Lexington, husband of Doris Covington Stephens, died Sat, Nov 8, 2008 at the Veterans Administration - Cooper Drive. Born in Greenup County, he was a son of the late Charles and Nuna Stephens. He retired from Sears and owned several small businesses. He was a Marine Veteran of WWII. He was a member of Southland Christian Church. He is survived by Dr. James Keith (Kitty) Stephens, Lexington; two daughters, Martha Jo (Michael) Meehan, Lexington and Marilyn "Mel" (Ben R.) Oldham, Lexington; six grandchildren, Matthew (Kelly) Stephens, Lexington, Dr. Abby Stephens, Austin, TX; Megan Meehan, Lexington, Miles Meehan, Lexington, Shannon (John) Sampson, Lexington and Jon C. Oldham, Washington, DC; two great-grandchildren, Lauren Clay Sampson, and John Tyler Sampson, Lexington; one sister, Mary Castro, Exeter, NH; a cousin, Dr. Priscilla Lynd, Lexington; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 12:30pm to 2:30pm at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home - Harrodsburg Road. Funeral services will be at 2:30pm Wed by Rev. Brewster McLeod and Miles Meehan at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Lexington Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Pine Meadows Nursing Home, 1608 Hill Rise Dr., Lexington 40504.
