James Harvie Allan November 06, 1919 - July 13, 2001 After a gallant battle with many health challenges, Harvie, born November 6, 1919, passed away at York Central Hospital, Richmond Hill, on July 13, 2001. Beloved husband of Phyllis and devoted father to five sons, and 17 grandchildren. A veteran of World War II, after returning from overseas to Dunnville, he was very active in both business and community life. Harvie successfully ran the Dunnville Dairy, a family business serving the Niagara Peninsula for over 50 years, while at the same time keeping many other business interests. Harvie's community interest was extensive and active in groups such as the Masonic Lodge, the Kinsmen, the Lions Club and a life member of Grace United Church. Of special interest to Harvie for many years was the Ontario Healthcare System, and as such, he enjoyed his time as Director of OHA, and especially his time involved on the board of Haldimand War Memorial Hospital. As one of its founders, Harvie was very proud of the success of the Hospital Foundation, and how the community supported it. He held strong beliefs in the importance of community involvement in the healthcare system. After his retirement from the dairy business, Harvie spent many years traveling the world, and sharing his interest in far away places with many others, both in pictures and in guiding tours. He visited over 100 countries and enjoyed all aspects of his adventures. In recent years, although slowed down by health issues, he still kept a lively interest in business and family. Predeceased by his mother Lilian, father James N., and sister Jean, Harvie was an inspiration to the family he leaves behind, including Jim and Jean (Morgan, Erin, Galen, Bladen, Kaali) of Vancouver, Peter and Mary (James, Kimberly, Courtney, Kyle, Emily) of Waterdown, Philip and Barb (Beth, David) of Aurora, Scott and Barb (Caitlin, Meredith, Laura) of Aurora, and Jeff and Karin (Gregory, Kristy) of Aurora. Also fondly remembered by nieces Jane, Anne and Mary and their families. Harvie and Phyllis made the difficult decision in moving away from Dunnville to Aurora to be nearer to some of their immediate family. It was a decision that was not made lightly, and Harvie appreciated the continued greetings and fellowship from his years of living in Dunnville. A high point in celebration of his life was the gathering of the clan, each and every son, daughter-in-law and grandchild for a group photograph in February of this year. This brought great joy and satisfaction to someone who had such a complete and robust life. We will all miss him. We know that Harvie would want to give special thanks, as do the family, to many of the community caregivers that were involved from CHATS, WeCare, and the Dialysis Group at York Central Hospital. Donations, in lieu of flowers, would be appreciated if made to Dunnville Hospital Foundation or charity of your choice. Friends may call at the J.W. Hart Funeral Home 113 Lock Street East, Dunnville, N1A 1J6, 905-774-6335, on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral will be held to celebrate Harvie's life on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Grace United Church in Dunnville with a private family committal to follow. Friends are invited to join with the family in the Lilian Allan Hall, Grace United Church, for a reception following the service.
