THORNE, James Barnett November 15, 1932 - July 28, 2014Jim passed away on July 28, 2014 after a long illness. Born in Brandon and raised in Miami, Manitoba, Jim joined the RCMP at the age of 18 and served for 35 years, finally retiring as Chief Superintendent, Finance Officer ( E Division ) in Vancouver in 1986. While stationed in Chilliwack in 1956 he met and married the love of his life, Marjorie Thorne ( nee Alendal ) and together they raised their three children James, Daniel and Jennifer in his subsequent postings in Ottawa, Edmonton and finally, Vancouver. Upon retirement Jim and Marjorie moved to South Surrey where he discovered his great love for welding and engineering design, inventing and constructing trailers and other various devices as fast as he could dream them up. Always at work in his garage he could often be seen repairing bikes for neighbourhood kids and building roof racks for their parents.Jim was predeceased by his parents Harry (member of the Royal North West Mounted Police) and Margaret, sister Ruth and brother Howard but leaves behind his wife Marjorie, their three children, five grandchildren, brother Bill in Winnipeg and extended family across the country. An honour guard service will take place at the RCMP Depot Division in Regina at a later date.
