->OTIS and BANGOR - James "Mickey" A. Kearns, 93, died June 27, 2013, at a Bangor nursing home. He was born Nov. 11, 1919, in Bangor, son of Thomas and Catherine (Slager) Kearns.Mickey served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from the airport department as supervisor of airport maintenance for the City of Bangor. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mickey was very proud of becoming a member of the Biggest Buck Club in 1969. He loved the great outdoors, especially the time he spent at camp on Beach Hill Pond. Mickey was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.Mickey is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce M. (Bridgham) Kearns; two sons, James R. Kearns and wife, Joan, of Ellsworth and Alfred T. Kearns and wife, Kim, of Bangor; two daughters, Jeanne Kearns of Half Moon Bay, Calif., and Barbara DeCarolis and husband, Nino, of Carmichael, Calif.; grandchildren, Karen, Kathy, Mark, Jeff, Ricky, Jenny, Jimmy Jr., Kelli, Cyndi, Eric, Dawn, Kenneth and Ryan; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Ann "Florance" Passamano of Cromwell, Conn.; brother, Robert "Bobby" Kearns of San Francisco; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mickey was predeceased by his first wife, Beulah (McKay) Kearns; son, Charles Kearns; stepdaughter, Patricia Leach; grandchild, Megan Senter; and 12 siblings. The family thanks the staff at the Maine Veterans Home, Bangor, for the loving care they provided to Mickey "Grampa."A memorial service will be held noon, Wednesday, July 3, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Grace Bartlett, First Congregational Church, Brewer, officiating, and relatives and friends are welcome to call 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor, after the service. The family invites relative and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the interment.
