John R. "Bob" Teixeira, of DeLand, FL, age 72, passed away on Friday, December 10, 2010 at West Volusia Care Center/Hospice, Orange City, FL after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on August 15, 1938 in Attleboro, MA to John (Tacky) and Frances (Nasise) Teixeira, both predeceased, he lived in Norton, MA until 1973 when he relocated to Coral Springs, FL. Bob was a graduate of Coyle High School, Taunton, MA and attended Providence College. Prior to his moving to DeLand, he was employed with Advantage Marketing and Sales until his retirement. For many years prior he was a retail store manager with the Pantry Pride food chain in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Lighthouse Point and Boca Raton until their closure. Bob became an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in DeLand where he was a Eucharistic Minister and a Minister for the Sick calling on local nursing homes in the DeLand area. In addition to the ministry, he participated in numerous prayer groups including the Adoration Chapel. He enjoyed his time working with the team in the Food Pantry. Bob was an active member of the Volusia Knights of Columbus Council 6274 in DeLand and received the 2010 Knight of the Year Award, which he displayed with pride. Following in his father's footsteps, he enjoyed the challenges of the game of golf. In addition to his wife, Carole, he is survived by a brother, Edward "Ted" (Carole) of DeLand; step-daughter, Shelly Trematerra of Boca Raton and her 3 children, Alyssa, Alexis and Alina; niece, Danielle (Danny) Shadron and their 2 children, David and Sarah; nephew, Todd (Kerry) Teixeira and their 2 children, Katie and Allison; mother-in-law, Lily Holt of Boca Raton; 3 brothers-in-law, Geoffrey, David and Tommy Holt; sister-in-law, Nancy Collins; numerous cousins in MA and RI and many friends. Funeral Mass to be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church in DeLand, FL on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 10:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church in Norton, MA, date pending. Interment will be in Norton, MA. Donations in his name may be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church, 359 W. New York Ave., DeLand, FL 32720 or the West Volusia Care Center, 1625 Veteran's Memorial Parkway, Orange City, FL 32763. Lankford Funeral Home in DeLand is in charge of arrangements.
