CRYSTAL - John "Jack" J. Ganley, 78, went to be with our Lord and his beloved wife and daughter, Lorraine and Kim, both whom he lost in courageous battles with cancer, June 1, 2012, surrounded by family and friends. He was born Jan. 5, 1934, in Camden, N.J., the youngest son of 13 children and the last surviving child of Charles J. Sr. and Annette M. (Shelly) Ganley. Jack was employed as a forest ranger for the state of Maine for 23 years and as a deputy sheriff for Aroostook County, training at Waterville Police Academy and serving under Sheriff Darrell Crandall. He was an avid hunter, making trips to Alaska and Labrador, Canada, to name a few. His love of hunting led him to be a Maine master guide and a lifetime member of American Rifle Association. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, past master of Island Falls Masonic Lodge AF & AM No. 206, where he joined in 1987, and was a member of York Rites and Anah Shriners, Bangor. Jack and Lorraine enjoyed camping at Birch Point Campgrounds every summer since 1987, making close friendships with many campers that they both cherished and loved. Jack loved fishing and watching the sunset. He had many beautiful memories of Pleasant Lake and of his boat, Jeune Bug. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Ganley of Portland. A big thank you to Jack's special friends, Charlotte, Marcy, Bud, Terri, Janet, Diane, Ann, Rich and Pauline, for their kindness and care giving as he reached the end of his journey here on earth. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 18, at Bowers Funeral Home, Sherman Street, Island Falls, where Masonic funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. by Island Falls Lodge No. 206. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to CancerCare of Maine, P.O. Box 931, Bangor ME 04402-0931; or Visiting Nurses of Aroostook, 14 Access Highway, Caribou, ME 04736.
