Avis de décès de Ina-Elizabeth Lee

HUTCHISON, Ina Elizabeth (Lee) - ATCM, BA, MA - Ina was born on 10 January 1915 in Murillo, Ontario, daughter of the late Rev. Fred and Mrs. Ida Lee, and died on 12 March 2007 in North Bay, Ontario. She is survived by 7 nieces and 1 nephew. Rev. Lee had come from a family which was not only musical, but also active in the local community. Ina followed in the family footsteps. In the 1930s, she attended Regina College to attain her ATCM in piano and then became Director of the United Church choir at Shoal Lake, Manitoba, also playing the organ and teaching piano lessons. Later she accepted a job in Port Arthur where she continued her music. In 1937, she married Harold Nixon Hutchison, a civil engineer, and they moved to Geraldton. Moving became a habit because of the nature of her husband's work. They spent the war years in Newfoundland. Then, her husband was stationed in Ottawa for a time. She lived for two years in Morocco (with the Marshall Plan after WWll). From 1953-55, they lived at the North Bay airbase where Ina formed the first choir at the Protestant Chapel. In 1969, Ina graduated from the North Bay Teacher's College and was hired by the North Bay Board of Education as a music teacher. She was an active participant in the Kiwanis Festival for many years. After retiring from teaching, she completed her BA at Nipissing University College in 1982 and then studied geography at Carleton University where she received an MA degree in 1986 when she was 71 years of age. Geography was an apt choice for someone who had travelled throughout Europe, North America, New Zealand and Africa. Ina was a member of the University Alumni executive and represented the Alumni on the Nipissing University College Board of Governors from 1989 to 1993. She represented Carleton University as a member of the Friends of Ontario's Universities committee, was a member of the Carleton University Alumni, the Canadian Association of Geographers and a member of the Legacy Circle of the Henry Tory Marshall Society. Locally, she was the Health representative for the Retired Teachers of Ontario, a member of the Executive and corresponding secretary of the University Women's Club, and a member of the Public Library Art Club and the Greater North Bay Horticultural Society Ina wrote numerous articles and contributed to the Canadian Geographic magazine. In 1991, she published a history of Nipissing University College. She is remembered fondly for her sense of humour and strong determination. Ina's friends and family may gather at the Calvin Presbyterian Church (580 Commercial St.) on Saturday, March 17th for a period of visitation from 10:00 am until time for the Funeral Service in the Sanctuary at 11:00 am. Spring interment at the Terrace Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from City Hall).
