Herbert Hoover Lake, 86, Venice, died March 3, 2004. He was born Nov. 21, 1917, in Miami and came to Venice in 2003 from Lancaster, Pa. He retired in 1967 as a sergeant first class after 27 years in the Army as a diesel mechanic, serving during World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War. He was a member of the Retired Enlisted Association and Thames River Ecological Association (T.R.E.A.). He was a Presbyterian. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Marik of Venice; a sister, Arlene of Jacksonville; and a brother, Jerry of Windermere. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Venice Presbyterian Church, with a reception to follow in the church hall. Burial and additional services will be in Hampton, Va. Farley Funeral Home is in charge. Memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720; or to Venice Presbyterian Church, 111 Firenze Ave. East, Venice, FL 34285.
