Avis de décès de Henry-L. Hammond


ANDERSON, Ala.- The funeral for Mr. Henry L. 'Hank' Hammond will be December 15, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Elkins East Chapel with Brother Tom Howe, minister of First Baptist Church of Anderson Alabama officiating. Burial will follow in the Grassy Cemetery. Visitation was last night at Elkins East Chapel. Mr. Hammond, 72, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, December 13, 2003. Elkins East Chapel is assisting the family. Mr. Hammond was born December 10, 1931. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Shriners, Masonic Lodge, and a member of First Baptist Church of Anderson. Upon retirement from the U.S.A.F. after twenty-four years of service, he replaced General Saliba as Veteran's Service Officer for Lauderdale County, Alabama. In 1973, Mr. Hammond initiated the incorporation of the town of Anderson, Ala. He also helped found the Hammond-Sinyard Legion Post # 168 and had the honor of serving as C ommander through June 2003. In 1988, Mr. Hammond became the Assistant Director of Veteran's Affairs for the state of Alabama in Montgomery. His primary duty was the founding of the three Veteran's retirement homes located in Alexander City, Bay Minette, and Huntsville, Ala. He retired in 1996 after serving the veterans of Alabama for twenty-four years. Mr. Hammonds is survived by his wife of almost fifty-three years, Millinea McCrary Hammond; four children and their spouses, Steve and Sherry Heintzleman of Athens, Ala., Rodney and Susie Hammond of Rogersville, Ala., LCDR Tracy and Tena Graham of Evans, Ga., and Mark Hammond of Athens, Ala.; one brother, James A. Hammond; one sister, Mary Turpen; one aunt, Myrtie Sinyard Williams; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Onus and Emily Hammond and one grandson, Ryan Heath Graham. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Byrum, James Cole, Bob Fay, Robert Gilliland, J.W. Hooie, and Larry Sinyard. Honor ary pallbearer will be Jerry Cole. The eulogy will be given by Mr. Frank Wilkes, Director of Veteran Affairs, State of Alabama, Montgomery, Ala.
