Helen M. Jenkins Nov. 2, 1949 – Feb. 3, 2014 CANTERBURY - Helen M. Jenkins, age 64, of Canterbury, passed away peacefully Monday at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Islip (LI) NY on November 2, 1949 to the late Kris and Anna Hansen. She graduated from Islip High School in 1967. Anna traveled by bus across the U.S. to San Diego where she met her husband in college and married April 10, 1976. She and her husband moved to Canterbury, CT in 1988. She finished her education graduating from Eastern Connecticut State University with a B.A. in Social Work. She worked in group homes, most notably Old Kimball for fourteen years, caring for clients and setting up and administering prescription drugs. She became ill and disabled in January 2003. Helen loved to participate in sports and go shopping. She always had a warm place in her heart for Bassett Hounds and had owned 5 over the years. She yearly attended "Woofstock" in Sturbridge, MA each September, which is sponsored by the Northeast Bassett Rescue where hundreds of Bassetts attend and participate in competition events for fundraising. She is survived by her husband Richard Jenkins, nephew and niece Howard and Nora; cousins Norman Simonsen, Gayle Pierce, Lars Slovic, Betsy Fishman and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A calling hour will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2014, from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. with a funeral service at 11:00 A.M. in Tillinghast Funeral Home, 433 Main Street, Danielson.
