DURHAM — Grace A. Knight, longtime resident of Durham, N.H., died at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, N.H., on July 27, 2011, after a brief illness. Mrs. Knight was born on March 12, 1919, in Revere, Mass., and was the daughter of Elizabeth (Cronin) and Timothy Mahoney. On Sept. 7, 1941, she was married to Albert Knight in Revere, Mass. She moved to Durham from Revere in 1959.Mrs. Knight worked for the Durham Trust Company and retired from the Durham Bank in 1981. She was a member of the St. Thomas More Parish in Durham and served as a volunteer with the student supper program held after Mass on Sunday evenings. Grace and her husband enjoyed summers at the family cottage on Lake Sunapee and traveling out of state to visit family and friends. Her most enjoyable moments were spent with her family, and she was affectionately called "Gracie" by her grandchildren.Grace is survived by her three daughters, Elizabeth (Robert) Swasey, Ormand Beach, Fla., Patricia (Thomas) Schneidau, Edgewood, Ky., and Margaret Houle, Durham; special nephew, James (Cheryl) Mahoney, Barrington; six grandchildren, Robert (Wendy) Swasey and William (Kimberly) Swasey, So. Deerfield, Mass., Daniel (Kimberly) Schneidau, Louisville, Ky., Jennifer (Gregory) Schings, Georgetown, Ky., Jessica (Brendan) Whalen, Barrington, Patrick Houle, Durham; 11 great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Kimberleigh, Chelsea, Stephanie and Kathryn Swasey; Ellen and Katherine Schneidau; William Schings; Aidan and Evan Whalen and Ryan Houle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, in 2005, her brother, James Mahoney Sr., and two grandsons, Brian Swasey and Thomas H. Schneidau IV.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to your local Food Bank in Grace's memory.Friends and family may call from 10 a. m. to 11 a. m. on Saturday, July 30, with a funeral service immediately following at 11 a. m. at Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Concord Road (Rt. 4), Barrington/Lee, N.H., with Father Andrew Cryans, officiating.
