->SKOWHEGAN -- Gordon M. Newton, 71, of Skowhegan, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, at Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan where he had been a patient since Feb. 17, 2006, following a long illness. He was born March 25, 1934, in Moose River, a son of Clyde A. and Lucinda S. (May) Newton. He was educated in the schools of Jackman. In 1964 Gordon married Judy Gray in Jackman. He worked more than 38 years for Central Maine Power Co. in Jackman and Skowhegan, retiring in 1991 due to ill health.He was a member of the Skowhegan/Madison Elks Lodge No. 2531, Skowhegan and the Keystone Masonic Lodge No. 80 A.F. & A.M. of Solon. He also was a member of Kora Temple Shrine of Lewiston.He enjoyed woodworking, reading, crossword puzzles, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judy of Skowhegan; a son, Larry G. Newton of South Carolina; two sisters, Gloria Parent of Michigan and Diane Taylor of Delaware; many nieces, nephews and cousins.A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, at Skowhegan/Madison Elks Lodge No. 2531, 21 Silver St., Skowhegan.
