Gloria Jean Thomas Mims - GRIFFIN - Funeral services for Gloria Jean Thomas Mims will be held Saturday, December 10, 2011, at 12:00 noon at Pleasant Baptist Church, 600 East McIntosh Road, Griffin, GA, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in Griffin. The Rev. Horace Fuller, Jr., will officiate. She was born to the late Eddie and America Thomas in Dublin, GA, on December 15, 1942. She graduated from Mary Fleming High School in 1960, and earned the bachelor's degree from Savannah State College in 1966 and a master's degree from Armstrong State College in 1970. With a career that spanned 27 years, Gloria helped to shape and mold young lives by teaching at elementary schools in Dublin and Savannah. She was baptized at Reedy Spring Baptist Church in Rentz, GA, and later united with the Wilmington Baptist Church in Savannah. She was currently a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Griffin. Gloria was called to eternal rest on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at Christian Ministries Hospice in Griffin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and America Thomas, and siblings, Solona T. Moore, Evoucous Thomas, Eddie Thomas, Jr., Jeanell T. Quarterman, Otha Thomas, and Cherlyn Thomas. Loved ones who cherish the memories are a daughter, Duan Shequita Mims Gadson and her husband Darrin Gadson, a grandson D'mon Gadson all of Griffin; three sisters, Evelyn T. Harris (Dr. Eldridge ) Barnesville; Robinell T. Madry, and Gwendolyn T. Edmond (the Rev. Dr. Willie L.) both of Dublin. Many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends recall the memories. A wake will be held at McDowell's Funeral Home on Friday, December 9, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. McDowell's Funeral Home, 305 North Hill St. in Griffin, GA, is in charge of the services.
