MALCOLM, George N. MMM, EM, CD RCA/RCHA. With great dignity and courage, at the age of 87 years, the last of the famous "MALCOLM GUNNERS" passed away on Remembrance Day, November 11, 2009. George spent 61 of those years, with his beloved wife Betty, (nee Elizabeth Kinsella). Born in Scotland, George emigrated as a wee lad to Magog, Quebec, Canada, in 1927, with his parents, William and Daisy Malcolm, along with 4 brothers and 2 sisters. George devoted 41 years of his life to the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery, serving in both World War 2 and the Korean War, alongside 3 of his brothers, and becoming one of the most respected Regimental Sergeant Major's. He was awarded special thanks from Field Marshall Montgomery for his leadership and devotion to duty in WW2 and was made a member of the Order of Military Merit in 1972 for his leadership and long service to the Canadian Forces. George retired in 1978 and in 1986, moved to Carleton Place, Ontario and became very active in Council 5153 Knights of Columbus holding all positions on the way up to becoming Grand Knight while always being involved in many local activities. The Knights of Columbus and the town honoured both he and Betty, at a farewell dinner upon their leaving Carleton Place to take up residence in Ottawa. George was predeceased by his son William in 1983 and also his brothers Bob, Bill and Ron, all former Gunners. He is survived by his sisters Ruth (Alfonse Corbiere) and Winnie (Jim Warry) and many nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his beloved wife Betty, daughters Mary (Toby Tobin), Teresa White (Philip Pilon), Patricia (Doug Wilkins), Maureen (Kevin Crotteau) and son Peter (Carolyn), daughter-in-law Sophia (William Malcolm), grandchildren Thom (Alyson), Trevor (Jill), Troy (Jane), Kyle, Ashley, Maggie, Patrick, Adam, Katie, Warren and Billy, great-grandchildren Bradley, Michael, Abbey, Findley and Joni. Friends may pay respects at a Mass in Memory, Saturday at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 153 Woodroffe Avenue (corner of Richmond Road at Woodroffe), at 11 a.m. Interment of his ashes will take place 10am, Monday, November 16, Notre Dame Cemetery, Ottawa. In Memoriam donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the National Artillery Museum of Canada, Shiloh, Manitoba.
