Mr. George A. Quirk of Waltham died Thursday April 15, 2010 at Kindred Hospital in Waltham. He was 87. George was born in Newton on December 23, 1922, a son of the late Michael and Mary (Doran) Quirk, George was a self employed contractor for many years for M.D. Quirk and Sons located in Newton. He was a graduate of sacred heart High School in Newton, a Past Commander of the George D. Carson American Legion Post, # 141 in Newton, and a former professional baseball player for the Pawtucket Slaters/Braves. He was also a World War II veteran serving with the United States Army Air Corp. George is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph, Charles, Henry and Robert Quirk, Alice Duffy, Mary Hemmer, and Elizabeth Farrell. Family and friends will honor and remember Georges life by gathering for a Memorial Mass on Thursday April 29th at 6 p.m. in Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham.
